This release is matured in an STR cask – this refers to a specific formula for the Shaving, Toasting and Re-Charring of Red Wine Hogsheads – A creation of the late Dr Jim Swan, that releases tons of flavour, and create a charcoal filter between the spirit and the cask which draws out impurities.

The founder, Max, wanted to build a distillery near a romantic river, and found the perfect site in the Derwent Valley, a World Heritage site. They built the distillery using local engineering companies where possible, but the stills were built by McMillan Engineering in Edinburgh, one of the oldest remaining copper smiths in the world.
